In recognition of “International Yoga Day 2021” (celebrated worldwide on June 21), Yoga New Zealand hosted an online roundtable. The topic of discussion was ‘Touch as a form of yoga communication, the benefits and disadvantages’.
Yoga New Zealand invites the global yoga community to view this forum and participate in this important yoga conversation with us.
Facilitated by Dr. Felicity Molloy, you’ll hear a variety of perspectives from five of New Zealand’s most experienced yoga teachers and therapists.
Dr. Felicity Molloy
Felicity is a well-established program designer and educator, immersed in human movement as a form of communication with extensive experience in yoga, somatics, massage and dance.
She was the academic director of Wellpark College of Natural Therapies until 2019, and now works with BodyStill, her unique suite of movement wellness programs, which includes Anatomy and Physiology and Touch & Modification, for both yoga teachers, Felicity Practice body work in the clinic and presents yoga and dance in the community, studios and residential villages.
To maintain “practice” as a source of body knowledge, Felicity maintains a commitment to teaching yoga for 20 years with Iyengar senior teacher Peter Thompson (Australia).
An experienced Nelson-based teacher / trainer / therapist.
Chaitanya is the co-owner, founder and senior teacher of Kindred Studio Nelson, where he teaches weekly classes, practices therapeutic massage and creates and directs his 200-hour teacher training programs at levels One and Two.
Specializing in applied anatomy (the anatomy of movement), myofascial release and joint mobilization as a bodywork since 2001, he brings a great passion and understanding of anatomy, skeletal variation and the functioning of the body to his classes. , workshops and training.
Dr. Jane Hardcastle
Dra. Jane Hardcastle is a yoga therapist, therapeutic yoga teacher and education specialist based in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Jane is the co-owner and co-director of MoveWell, a center for therapeutic yoga, massage and functional movement. Here she works 1 on 1 with yoga therapy and private yoga clients to improve movement patterns, relieve pain, and balance the needs for mobility and stability with each individual and their unique presentations.
Jane teaches small groups of clients in therapeutic yoga classes and develops / supervises MoveWell teachers and interns as they develop knowledge and skills for teaching therapeutic yoga.
Yoga teacher and trainer based on Waiheke Island and Auckland
Neal has taught in teacher training programs in Australia and New Zealand, has been a senior lecturer in Donna Farhi’s Advanced Teacher Training Program and has been a keynote speaker at the IYTA Conference.
He is a founding member and part of the core faculty of the Contemporary Yoga Teacher Training Program, based in Auckland, New Zealand.
Ali Hale Tilley
Based in Marton, a town in Rangitikei District, Ali is a qualified Yoga Alliance instructor, fitness instructor and celebrant. She also has a degree in Religious Studies (Victoria University).
Ali also recently completed his master’s degree in yoga at Victoria University, conducting an ethnographic study of yoga communities in New Zealand.
Ali has spent his entire adult life teaching health-related fitness and yoga. He founded Sadhana Yoga in 2006. Ali has taught thousands of health-related fitness, yoga and meditation students.
Currently based in Dunedin, Vincent has been teaching and practicing yoga since 1990 and has been involved with the health and wellness industry for even longer.
This has led him to become one of New Zealand’s leading yoga instructors and teacher trainers with a wealth of knowledge in biomechanics, yoga therapy, movement therapy and postural analysis.
Vincent is also the founder of Hañsa Yoga, a unique style that integrates Eastern and Western thinking and methodologies into the practice of yoga.
