Years ago, I wrote an article about our inner elf, that your elf takes you to embrace your True Self. From the word, SELF, I took out the letter S. It was then that I saw the deception working; our little mind, our inner elf always hides within our true greater self.
Sometimes we are reminded that our little elf distracts us in every way we can. The mind plays havoc with the constant chatter of outside noise and shiny objects. As the elf loves to deceive us with distractions. But to enter this inner sanctuary of stillness and be absorbed in the quality of calm and gentle peace, the elf can rest in his greater Self, the soul.
I remember the elf as I have been in the land of a great mystical possibility. Directing my retreat to Iceland, the land of fire and ice, these past ten days have piqued my curiosity about elves, trolls, and the magic that inspires this land.
Our daily lives are so consumed with the pragmatic rituals of keeping us busy. Our schedules are full of necessary “doing” activities that seldom allow our minds to return to the essence of pure “being”.
The habit or pattern of the learned mind is to strive. We, as a collective, are connected to the need to do more. Survival is tied to the primary need to maintain our physical body at the expense of suffering in our emotional and spiritual life. Slowing down is not our pattern, nor is letting go of the result. Making time and space reach the inside is contrary to our little mind.
Coming to this amazing place to feed, the elf has led me inside. The laughter, humor, and curious nature of my elf wanted me to make this extraordinary journey. Nature is the best reminder of connecting with the Fountain.
For the past two years, through all the obstacles of the Covid-19, I have intended to reach this distant land. He has not disappointed. I had no idea my elf was calling me. I had fallen asleep with the sweet cheater and had to fall in love with magic again.
