Heart Centered Kirtan
with Libby Volckening, James Robinson, Melissa Stevens,
Thomas Matherly and Anna Sobel
Friday April 13, 7:30 – 9 pm
$15 suggested donation (more if you can, less if you can’t)
**Beginners welcome**
One of New England’s newest devotional music groups, Heart Centered Kirtan is an eclectic collection of Pioneer Valley, MA, folks dedicated to offering an accessible pathway into the mysteries of the heart. In their modern adaptation of the traditional practice of Kirtan, they weave Sanskrit hymns, prayers and inspirational texts from ancient India into their own original blend of rock, folk, blues, and reggae.
Heart Centered Kirtans are informal, accessible and inspirational. You don’t need to be a great singer or know any Sanskrit to enjoy Kirtan, a meditative and energizing practice of devotional call-and-response singing. The repetition of the phrases combined with the back-and-forth nature of this group practice soothes the mind, creates community, and fosters an awareness of something greater than one’s individual self. Come sing, dance, or just listen — and let the music clear your mind and relax your heart.
This month’s kirtan will focus on personal and planetary healing in anticipation of Earth Day. Libby Volckening (harmonium/vocals) will be joined by James Robinson (guitar/vocals), Melissa Stevens (vocals), Thomas Matherly (bass), and Anna Sobel (percussion).
… Suggested donation $15 (more if you can, less if you can’t) appreciated, but not required. Everyone is welcome!
